Pine and Butterfly

This wonderful Red Admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) has taken a rest on my little pine with the moonshell today. What a nice accent.

Tooltime ... Carving knives

I recently found two hoof knives at a garage sale and thought that they could be useful for bonsai.
I cut them a little shorter and sharpened the edges.
They are very nice now for carving especially as they are bend at the end.
Happy crafting ....

Air layered beeches

These two beeches have been air layered this year and I like to show you some pics of today's cut-off.
I started it in 2011 but wasn't sure if it has been successful enough at the end of summer.
These beeches have been collected in an old hedge. The trunks are about 4 and 9 cm in size.

 UPDATE ........20.04.2013

It's getting warmer now and I have taken out the beeches from the winter-shelter.
They have been kept outdoor in a pile of bark over winter.
Today I cut back the branches and roots and planted them in a momentary pot.
The result on these airlayerings are very nice but it's still a long way to go!

Repotting my big beech.

We also have bonsai and not only make bonsai pots.
So...this is one of my big beech. I have bent it a little two days ago and cut back the branches.
It has been in its pot for about 2 years.

As it is heavy the root-cutting underneath the trunk is not easy.
By using a rope I fix the tree at the top so that I can lift it up with one hand and cut the roots far better now.

Not the final pot but a little step further.

Welcome.....

This blog is mainly to share our way with pottery and bonsai.

First of all we like to introduce ourselves.

We are born in 1964 and married since the year 2000.
We live in Germany in the Osnabrück area in a wonderfull old house at the edge of a forest.
A dog and two cats are our companions.

We are interested in bonsai since 2001 and have about 40 trees ....mainly yamadori and home-grown.
There are also a few hundred seedlings and cuttings as we both enjoy the cultivating very much.
In 2006 Klaudia started to make bonsaipots, which is a very nice part of our live for both of us now.
Other interests we share are gardening, nature, fishing and photography.

Welcome everybody and please enjoy the upcoming posts....
..nice to meet you and kind regards.
